Sample the New Sovereign Grace Album – Sons & Daughters

m4270-00-21_sI’m happy to let you know that you can listen to samples from our new album, Sons & Daughters, over at the Sovereign Grace Music website. We’ll be releasing it next Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the WorshipGod09 conference.

The songs are primarily meant for congregational worship, and focus on themes related to 1 John 3:1: See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

The project came out of a perceived lack of songs that help us meditate on the unfathomable love God has shown us in adopting us through Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:5). We are now part of God’s family – in Christ we will forever be the objects of God’s particular and passionate mercy and love. We are not only forgiven, we are co-heirs with Christ, and never again have to doubt God’s care for us.  That biblical reality, rather than leaving us focused on ourselves, drives us once again to proclaim the greatness of the God whose grace turns hopeless rebels into the precious children.

“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!” (Gal. 4:6)

Go over to the Sovereign Grace Music site and let me know what you think.

Yes! God’s love for us. His unfailing, unfathomable, undeserving, always abounding, never ceasing, unmatchable love for us, His children. Over the last several weeks as I’ve worked through the process of picking songs and scripture for our Sunday worship services, I have really started to pray, think about, and look for more songs that would help us get more into the awesomeness of God’s love for us. I think this is an answer to prayer. I am very excited about next week, and can’t wait to hear the songs.

Getting to listen to a new Sovereign Grace album preview right before a Sovereign Grace worship conference feels a lot like getting to open one of your presents on Christmas Eve. Over the last few years, it’s become just about as special a tradition for me and my worship team.

I think Completely Done will likely be a song that ministers greatly to our people: “What You complete is completely done!…I’m leaving my fears behind me now.” What a great message for us to embrace! (I also really like the soft piano and vocal ensemble at the end of the track.)

I’m glad you included The Greatest of All on the album. It’s been one of my favorites from Pat and Joel Sczebel’s You and You Alone album.

The acoustic/folky/country feel of several of the tracks is nice.

Looking forward to being at Covenant Life next week!

Bob, thank you for your faithful devotion once again. And thank you to all of the people involved in putting the cd together. The previews sound really good. Thank you for another lyrically solid project that is deeply encouraging.

Simply from a musical standpoint, it is obvious that SG projects have grown over the years. The voicings, instrumentation, mixing/mastering, and musicianship just get so much better with every cd that is released.

I agree with Kendall, there is a folk/country feel to it. My very first impressions of “God Delights in You” and “Precious Children” were a mix between Nickel Creek and Caedmon’s Call. I like the sound. But it’s also nice to mix it up on the other tracks.

I’m excited to get the album. Thank you again and keep it up.

p.s. So when are we getting the ganster rap for Jesus album and the X-games style worship music project? :)

    Wonderful as always, bro!

Looks great, the only problem is that we’re hearing the album before we are able to read the lyrics. I heard you say at one of the Worship God conferences that the best way to listen to a new potential worship album is by reading the lyrics first before you listen to the album. With that in mind I’ve been trying to find the lyrics for the new album but can’t seem to find them!

On a side note, thank you for your ministry to God, His Word, and His people. The resources that Sovereign Grace is putting out for worship pastors alone is incredible! Not to mention the rest of what Sovereign Grace is doing! Thank you for your faithfulness to sound doctrine found in God’s Word and provided for people through the music that you are writing!

    Hey bob,
speaking of perceived lack of songs, my pastor has been preaching through Romans and the first few chapters deal so much with God’s wrath. As I’ve thought about it, there are so few songs about that topic as well. I know it’s not the most pleasant topic, but it seems to be quite absent from most music today. Maybe you could address this on a future post and compile a list of songs that at least touch on the wrath of God, or maybe that can be your next album? Anyway, just a thought.

Brett, great idea. I have such a list on my computer. I’ll try to post on that in the next few weeks.

    Bob,
A special thanks to Soveriegn Grace for this project. I am a Foster Carer in Australia and I have a continuing need to grow in the the conviction of why I bring these broken children into my home with my kids.
I have just downloaded the album today (15 Aug) and precious children is melting my heart – praise God.
Russell Moore’s book “Adopted for Life” next.
Please shoot up a prayer for foster carers over here especially those who belong to the body of believers.

    Laurie
