Esther – An Original Musical

Last year the high school students at my church put on an original musical based on the book of Esther, Queen of Persia. It was written by Martin and Janice Landry, with an original score provided by Martin. Janice happens to be the daughter of the director, Cathy Mays.

Cathy has been directing and writing musicals at Covenant Life for years now. All six of my children have been a part of the shows she’s directed, and I know of few people who make acting such a spiritually beneficial experience.

I was particularly impressed with this latest production. The songs are memorable, the script is engaging, and the message of God’s sovereign care for his people comes through clearly. There are also some very funny songs and lines. Since my daughter was involved with the production, I saw the show three different nights and enjoyed it more each time.

For more information check out the website. You can also order the DVD from the Sovereign Grace Online Store.

And in case you missed it, two years ago Cathy and a few others wrote a musical based on John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress. You can learn more about it at the Pilgrim website.
