Last year when we were working on the Valley of Vision project I wanted to include a song based on a prayer that communicated the Puritans’ passion to advance the Gospel. I found it in “God’s Cause,” which begins:
Sovereign God,
Thy cause, not my own, engages my heart,
and I appeal to thee with greatest freedom
to set up thy kingdom in every place where Satan reigns;
Glorify thyself and I shall rejoice,
for to bring honor to thy name is my sole desire.
I adore thee that thou art God,
and long that other should know it, feel it,
and rejoice in it.
I appreciate the way the author connects our love for God with a desire to see others know that love. Corporate worship and evangelism aren’t opposed to one another. The more clearly I see the beauty, power, and goodness of God, the more I’ll want others to experience a relationship with him. That’s good to remember as I’m leading others, too. One of the effects of corporate worship should be a desire to proclaim the Gospel through our lives. In any case, here’s the song I came up with.
Your glorious cause, O God, engages our hearts
May Jesus Christ be known wherever we are
We ask not for ourselves but for Your renown
The cross has saved us so we pray,
Your kingdom come
Let Your kingdom come
Let Your will be done
So that everyone might know Your Name
Let Your song be heard everywhere on earth
Till Your sovereign work on earth is done
Let Your kingdom come
Give us Your strength, O God, and courage to speak
Perform Your wondrous deeds
Through those who are weak
Lord use us as You want, whatever the test
By grace we’ll preach Your gospel
Till our dying breath

If you’re receiving this through a blog aggregator, you can also download the song by right-clicking here. Charts are available here. I pray God uses it to inspire a greater passion for the Savior’s glory in your family, your neighborhood, your workplace, and the world.
The Valley of Vision (both the book and the CD) have ministered to me greatly. “Let Your Kingdom Come” is my favorite from the CD – with “The Precious Blood and “In the Valley” running close behind.
May many others be blessed by this great song by the generosity of the free download. Thanks.
That’s a great song. Thanks for sharing it. I can see us using it sometime soon ;-)
thanks! your generosity is a blessing.
Bob,
Thank you for these beautiful songs.
Alex
hi Bob, and greetings from Louisville
What are the possibilities of getting the entire “Valley of Vision” CD onto Napster? All the rest of Sovereign Grace’s projects are there, and as a subscriber, it would be great to get access to those songs.
If this is too much of a problem or is not cost effective for the ministry, I understand.
Thanks so much for all you are doing! I’m really excited to see your book!
Hi Bob.
I lead the music team in a church in Sydney, Australia, and we’ve greatly enjoyed the new songs on this album this year. So far I’ve introduced this song, plus Heavenly Father, Beautiful Son, both to very positive feedback.
We did a sermon series earlier in the year on the mission of our church, and sang Let Your Kingdom Come each week of the series to great effect.
Thanks very much – your songs are greatly appreciated. I’m looking forward to rolling out more throughout the rest of the year.
Thanks for the edifying music Bob. I downloaded the lead sheet, and have been playing it the past couple days on my piano at the house. As a pastor, that is my heart’s cry for our church, especially in our community. What a glorious calling to be salt and light. May our Father use you to continue to magnify and make famous the name of His Son, and the Spirit continue to bear fruit in your life and your ministry.
God’s grace to you,
Ryan
This is one of the best songs I have heard in a long time. It captures the idea and motives that we should have in echoing the continual prayers of the angels in heaven. “Come, Lord Jesus.” But all contingent on the extent of the gospel. GREAT SONG. I absolutely love it
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. You led the pastors at Moody Bible Institute in this song and it was so powerful. I can’t even begin to tell you how much encouragement this has already given me. Thank you so much.
I must say, I do LOVE this song. This is going to be one of my next suggestions for introduction at our Youth services – we are currently using both “It was Your Grace” and “Heavenly Father, Beautiful Son”.
this is a great song i really love it thanks for the lyrics
An absolute fantastic and amazing SONG! Thank you so much for sharing the song with us. It captures the essence of what the mindset of every believer of our LORD Jesus Christ should be, “Lord use us as You want, whatever the test, by grace we’ll preach Your gospel, Till our dying breath”
To GOD be the glory forever and forever till eternity=)
Amen
Hi Bob,
Thanks for posting this song. We’ve used it several times in our youth group now. Would you mind if we used this mp3 as background music for a slideshow I’m putting together for one of our youth events?
