All of the seminars, as well as the main sessions, are available here. Although I’d recommend all of them for you or your team, here are a few highlights:
Praying with the Psalmist (Donald Whitney)
While this doesn’t deal directly with leading congregational worship, I heard many people comment on how helpful this seminar was. Here’s one response: “His focus on the Psalms and how to use them to pray gave a way to get off of the downward spiral of unproductive introspection, and move on to fresh and engaging times in prayer.”
Maintaining Priorities in and around the Worship Team (Julie Kauflin)
My wife taught this one, joined by my daughter, Megan, and my daughter-in-law, Tali. I’ve watched Julie serve faithfully at home while also serving at various times as a vocalist, front-of-house engineer, and support to me. One woman wrote, “This teaching was gold to me. To be able to learn from Julie (and her daughters) wisdom, years of experience, that was just a huge privilege.” Another said, “I took feverish notes, feeling there was so much helpful insight given. I also felt the whole time that the wives of the men on our team should also have been there! Helpful to me as a worship team member, and felt it would be very helpful for the wives of the other team members so we can all have better understanding with each other.”
Psalm 131: A Calm and Humble Heart (David Powlison)
Every musician who struggles with pride, envy, or insecurity should listen to this one (I think that means all of us). One attendee commented, “Powlison was awesome. I must re-listen. Even though he is not a “musician” he has a grasp on what we all (sinners) struggle with!” Another wrote, “Mr. Powlison must have had a spy inside my head in describing the sinful process that takes place–the thought patterns–the “noise machine”. Most helpful was the process of how to get to the godly goal of being devoid of pride, humbly coming before the Lord and then gently helping others to do what you have learned.”
Leading Worship in a Small Church (Pat Sczebel)
Pat has exhibited faith and joy for years as a worship pastor in a smaller church. His insights are excellent, and the fruit of a humble life. One attendee said, “Pat was fabulous. Reminding us to be blessed where we are and not feel we need “X” then…. Directing us back to being humble servants as our goal. Setting foundation with our teams – not being a team, being a family. Best seminar I took – it was a 10.”
I’d like to add for readers of this blog my recommendation of “Worship Team Checkup” by Matt Mason. It’s tremendously valuable for members of a worship team to hear Matt’s humble and gospel-driven counsel. I’m a Worship Pastor, and felt that the tools I gained from his seminar were among the most beneficial 2 or 3 things I have taken away from the conference.
Bob, during “Band on the Run” you mentioned that you were recording video of the event – will that be available at some point? I would love for my band to go through your material, and I think it would be even more helpful with the video component.
Bob, I’d just like to thank you and SGM for making this material available – and for free! I appreciate it so much. Looking through the list of workshops, I feel like a kid in a candy store – where do I start? It’s a great blessing and we are thankful to God for SGM’s generosity.
Bob, is there a place where we can download outlines for any of the seminars?
Elisabeth,
In a few weeks, I’ll be posting the outlines on Worship Matters. I’m heading out for a two week vacation on Sunday, so it will be after we get back. Thanks for asking.
Excellent! I’m looking forward to checking out these resources, Bob. Thank you!
Mr. Kauflin,
Thank you so much for providing these messages and break out sessions! I was not able to go to the conference, but I look forward to hearing these! Thank you for serving us!
-Caleb
Thanks again a ton! Are you eventually going to put up the worship (music) sessions still? :)
Thanks a load for all this. I’ve e-mailed the link around to other musicians in our church plant, and I’m sure they’ll find it helpful. One of them has already listened to some of the keyboard seminar, and has told me it’s the first teaching he’sever agreed with on the role of keyboard in a worship band.
As a multi-instrumentalist/amateur theologian/songwriter/soon-to-be worship leader/director… I’m listening to them all!
I was overseas at the time of the conference and am so thankful for these messages being made available (esp. for free!)
I haven’t been able to listen to all of them yet, but “Leading Worship in a Small Church” was really helpful to me.
Thanks again!
Hi Bob,
I’ve just begun as Magnification Pastor with Central Coast Evangelical Church (Sydney, Australia)
I understand you’ve just met with Andrew Heard (my boss)
and it seems the approval i’ve been waiting months for has arrived (since meeting with Pete, Dave and Mike from SG Wales)
So looks like I’m coming out for Worship God 09 (selling my piano for the airfares)
Totally pumped for it and hopefully bringing some of my team out too.
