We’re getting ready to head over to WorshipGod UK in Bath next week, but planning is in full swing for another event, WorshipGod West 2014: TRIUNE , July 16-19. The location will be the same as last year, Calvary Church in Santa Ana, CA. The folks at Calvary were stellar and we’re thrilled to be holding the conference there again.
Why WorshipGod: Triune? Many Christians think of the Trinity as something like an appendix. We know it’s there but we’re not quite sure what it’s purpose is. And if we had it removed, nothing much would change.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The Trinity is at the heart of our faith and at the heart of our worship.
But how much do you know about the Trinity? More importantly, how well do you know God as Father, Son, and Spirit? What difference does it make to your relationship with him? To your prayers? To your songs? Would it matter if God wasn’t Triune?
These questions and more will be the focus of WorshipGod14: TRIUNE. In the main session we’ll be exploring what difference God being Three-in-One makes to our songs, our prayers, our meetings, and our lives.
One of our guest speakers will be Mike Reeves from the UK, who has written Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to the Christian Faith. Michael says, “If the Trinity were something we could shave off of God, we would not be relieving him of some irksome weight; we would be shearing him of precisely what is so delightful about him. For God is triune, and it is as triune that he is so good and desirable.”
Along with Mike, we’ll also be hearing from Dr. Bruce Ware from Southern Seminary, Jon Payne, Rick Gamache, and myself.
John Martin and Enfield will be back again this year to lead us for a session and teach various seminars. Matt Boswell will also be joining us with a band from Providence Church in Frisco, TX. I love Matt’s desire to see the church singing theologically rich songs that fuel a passion for the gospel. I’ll be leading a couple sessions as will my son, Devon, with musicians from Sovereign Grace churches.
There will be 28 seminars, from which attendees can choose four. I’m pretty excited about some of the new topics we’ve added this year.
The Trinity in History: How Not to be a Heretic (Carl Trueman)
Getting a Grip on God’s Glory (Bruce Ware)
Song Review Workshop (Steve and Vikki Cook, Matt Boswell)
The Business of Songwriting (Brock Shinen)
Songwriting and the Church (Brock Shinen)
Encountering God’s Presence: What Should We Expect? (Bob Kauflin)
Introduction to Loops, Multitracks, and Tech (Patrick Anderson)
The Faith-Filled Leader (Jon Payne)
Planning Your Sunday (Panel)
In addition, On Wednesday afternoon, before the conference begins, we’ll be offering two intensives. Sheri Gould will be leading The Contemporary Choir. They’ll also sing on Friday night. I’ll be teaching a workshop called, “Lessons Learned from Thirty Years of Leading.”
As always, there will be free lunches, loads of giveaways, and fresh opportunities to be equipped, meet with like-minded worshipers, and encounter God as we sit under the teaching of his Word, sing his praises, and fellowship with his people. Plus the first 20 church planters get a free registration and senior pastors can come for only $75 (because we want you there!).
We’d love to have you join us. The website is up and registration is now open.
Will you be having a Worship God conference East this year?
We won’t, Jeff. It will be in 2015. Thanks for asking!
